The wedding season for 2022 may have begun, but for most GCC couples, especially those overseas, civil marriage is the preferred choice. For couples who are in a hurry to settle in other countries, they have to make their marriage official through a civil ceremony. Some are willing to do Nikah after getting settled abroad to fulfil their religious traditions.

In this article, you will know more about why civil marriage is an easy way to issue marriage globally before Nikah.

A Religious Tradition of Nikah: 

 A Nikah is a religious contract between two parties and is an essential part of an Islamic marriage. Husband and wife will sign a Nikah, along with the witnesses from both of their families. As a final step in the ceremony, the Husband and Wife will verbally confirm their relationship. 


There is, however, no legal binding on this document. Muslim expats need to register in their country of permanent residence.

Is Kuwait a Perfect Option for Civil marriage?

Kuwaiti marriages require a lot of formalities and paperwork. This process can be laborious.

  • Nationality certificate or civil ID for Kuwaiti applicants
  • Resident applicants with Civil ID or passport
  • Official letter issued by Executive Committee and the personal identification for illegal resident applicants
  • Inheritance determination for widow applicants
  • For spouses who are students, dealers retired, or unemployed, your husband’s public institution for social security must provide a letter
  • Presence of heirs if the guardian is no longer alive
  • Proof of divorce for the divorcee
  • Require Special power of attorney
  • Submit a Marriage permit from the employer, if the husband is a military man

Thousands of Muslim couples exchange their vows with loved ones by civil marriage before Nikah. Most often, this is done by those with plans to eventually live abroad. It is because only Nikah does not give Muslim couples official validity in foreign countries.
