Why doesn’t Canada recognize online marriage?

Prior to 2015, Canada allowed internet marriages for immigration purposes, where one or both spouses were not physically present. The only condition was that the marriage is legally recognized in the country where it took place.

The Canadian government no longer recognizes this. The restriction on internet marriage was created primarily to address women’s vulnerability in the immigration process.

A legally recognized marriage, in which both of you, were physically present is your only option if you wish to have a lawful marriage in Canada.

If you and your partner live in one of the (GCC) countries, you should be informed that getting married there is quite difficult. Many couples have married in different locations, such as Georgia, or have married online. Getting married online is not the ideal option if you want to move to Canada.
