Consequences of a baby passport in Kuwait without marriage

Like many GCC countries, Kuwait also has rules and regulations based on Sharia law which does not allow women to give birth to a baby out of wedlock. Many expats travel to Kuwait to avail job opportunities and can’t follow the rules.

Recently UAE announced; that giving birth outside a wedlock wasn’t a punishable offense any longer; however the same cannot be said for other GCC countries. For all unmarried women, it is better to get married in easy wedding destinations and register your marriage in Kuwait. Here is the guide that you can follow.

Out-of-wedlock pregnancy poses serious risks to unmarried women:

Out of wedlock pregnancy may deport or imprison the woman in jail. If she opts for the option of abortion, they are in danger of being in prison for 5 years. Due to all these issues, it becomes difficult for a baby to get a birth certificate and a passport. Without these documents, a baby, the residency in Kuwait cannot not be possessed by the expats.

Newborn baby’s conditions to follow in Kuwait:

Based on the marriage certificate, the baby’s birth certificate is being issued. When you have both documents, you must have the following paperwork that will need to be present at the passport application collection centre:

  • A translation of the birth certificate into English
  • Original birth certificate (Arabic)
  • Copies of the passports of both parents
  • Copy of father’s civil ID
  •  Copy of mother’s civil ID
